Car Design Night, held in collaboration with Geneva Motor Show, will not take place in 2022

Organisers of the Geneva Motor Show have announced that it will not go ahead in 2022, citing “issues relating to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic” in a news release. They hope to re-group and hold a “more impactful” event in 2023. 

“We have pushed very hard and tried everything to reactivate the Geneva International Motor Show in 2022,” said Maurice Turrettini, president of the Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile. “Despite all our efforts, we have to face the facts and the reality: the pandemic situation is not under control and presents itself as a big threat for a large indoor event like GIMS. But we see this decision as a postponement, rather than a cancellation. I am confident that the Geneva International Motor Show will come back stronger than ever in 2023.”

As a result, the annual Design Night that Car Design News holds in association with Geneva Motor Show will not take place in its traditional format in 2022. Instead, the team at Car Design News are examining viable alternatives. 

Car Design Night had been running for 12 years before the Geneva show was cancelled in 2020. The last time it was held, back in 2019, saw leading designers from carmakers and suppliers come together to discuss the various challenges and opportunities in the field.
